together for a cleaner, safer walmer township

masifunde, together with the community of Walmer Township, is piloting a Neighborhood Upgrade Project that aims to create a clean, safe, and thriving environment for all residents.

We’ve launched a Donation Registry for the tools and equipment needed — and here’s the best part: Adendorff Machineries covers 50% of each item’s cost.

You can donate any amount towards an item, and once half the cost is covered, Adendorff funds the remaining 50%.Your contribution, no matter the size, helps us provide the tools that make real, lasting change possible.

community-led transformation

In the pilot phase, ten residential blocks between Yoyo Street, Gamanda Street, and Fountain Avenue have been identified. These include important community spaces such as Walmer Primary School, the public park, the local clinic, hundreds of households, and masifunde’s own venues.

With the support of the Social Employment Fund, masifunde has recruited 10 local residents who, together with our maintenance team under the guidance of a foreman, are leading this upgrade.

Their daily work includes:

  • Installing and servicing 25 new rubbish bins

  • Trimming bushes and grass

  • Sweeping streets

  • Repairing and beautifying both public and private spaces

Exciting projects are already underway: an illegal dumpsite is being transformed into a road-safety park for children, and the existing public park is being cleaned and its playground equipment restored.

strong partnerships for change

This initiative is possible thanks to the collaboration of committed partners:

  • Adendorff Machineries provides a 50% contribution towards tools and equipment, while the public sponsors the remaining half through our Donation Registry. Every contribution directly equips our team for the upgrade.

  • Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has committed to repairing road surfaces, potholes, streetlights, and speed bumps, and installing new signage – critical steps toward a safer neighborhood. Currently, only 5% of the streetlights are functional, but this will soon change.

  • Magnum Alarms, in partnership with FiberTime, will install 40 AI-monitored CCTV cameras. Linked directly to SAPS and Metro Police, these cameras will oversee Walmer Primary School, the public parks, the clinic, and surrounding streets, greatly enhancing community safety.

be part of the change

This project is with the community and for the community. Volunteers from Walmer and across the city are invited to join monthly weekend clean-up and upgrade days. Each session ends with a shared community meal at masifunde’s myMito Coffee Shop, building not only a better neighborhood but also stronger connections.
